Description

In the Cornish coastal village of Porthenev, a storm of blood-soaked violence is brewing…

Escalating acts of sabotage are threatening the livelihoods of local fishermen. Desperate to apprehend the culprit, they turn to private investigator Blake Hollow for help.
A seasoned veteran in wrangling dangerous criminals, Blake still grapples with her own ghosts, but views this case as just another routine assignment. Little does she know, the fishermen of Porthenev are harbouring secrets darker than the ocean. And the deadliest of them all is about to resurface.

When one of the men vanishes without a trace, Blake is unnerved by the nightmarish crime scene left behind in his wake. As she delves deeper into the heart of this once tight-knit community, she discovers the price of keeping silent is paid not just in blood but in a chilling conspiracy that threatens to consume everyone involved.

Now Blake must navigate treacherous waters to solve a mystery unlike any she’s encountered before—and stop a sadistic killer with a taste for flesh, who is hellbent on exacting gruesome retribution.

The Dark Below by Malcolm Richards is a gripping and relentless crime thriller that will leave readers on the edge of their seats, craving the next twist in this pulse-pounding tale of suspense and revenge.

  1. Ken Lingenfelter

Blake Hollow PI is hired to find out who is vandalizing fishing boats. Then a series of horrendous murders occur, and Blake is the one to piece together what they are connected to. The killer is now also after Blake. A thriller that increases your pulse rate.

  2. C. Malito

Hired to find the culprit in a series of acts of vandalism, Blake finds herself in the midst of murder. This book is definitely a page turner. Characters are well-developed. All in all, I’d say that Me. Richardz has a winner here.

  3. Patricia Heaps

A superbly gripping novel right from the start. When investigating some mysterious acts of sabotage at the harbour, PI Blake Hollow soon finds herself in the middle of a fast moving series of grisly and hideous events. Will the dark secret she has discovered lead her to the perpetrator? Malcolm Richards is adept at describing both characters and events with clarity and The Dark Below is definitely up there with the best.

  4. Isabelle

Generally, I enjoyed the book and thought it was well written but I thought the story line was rather grisly and far fetched at times (sorry to be a party pooper). Obviously others felt differently – maybe I have a queasier stomach?! The location of the story was clearly well researched which helped to make it ring true in many respects. Definitely worth reading but it wasn’t a story which had me gripped and desperate to finish it until I got to the last 10%. This was the first Blake Hollow story I have read so maybe I don’t yet ‘know’ the lead character well enough.

  5. Sue M

Engaging story with believable characters. Plenty of tension, and the author lets you see (after a while) how and why the authorities were sometimes looking in the wrong direction. There are some pretty graphic scenes, so it may not be for everyone. But as a work of fiction, it pulled me right in. Looking forward to the next book already.

  6. G. Klunder

Malcolm did it again with “The Dark Below”.
When Blake Hollow was hired by Jasper Rowe to investigate and find out who was sabotaging the fishermen’s boats in the harbor, she didn’t realize what she was about to face. This book will keep you turning pages to find out what comes next as it takes from petty crime to murder and suspense.
    You won’t be sorry.

  7. Christine

Wow! Another page-turner which will have you looking over your shoulder just to ensure your own safety.
The characters are very real and every detail is described immaculately. You get pulled right into the story and hope that everything works out and the now-familiar characters stay safe. (Or alive, at least!)

  8. Sallyf

The third book in the series is just as good as the previous two. Blake Hollow is faced with investigating acts of violence, and vandalism in a fishing port and then murder. As she digs deeper into this it seems impossible to work out whether the vandalism and murder are by the same person or separate people. Great and unpredictable ending.

  9. Diane Mearns

Blake Hollow is hired to investigate several reasonably minor incidents which have taken place at a harbor. However, this soon escalates into some very disturbing crimes and Blake cannot just stand back and wait for the police to solve them.

Gripping story with some interesting characters. The protagonist , Blake, is affable, witty and her life is intriguing. Settings are depicted so well, it’s easy to visualise the gruesome crime scenes.

Cleverly written and flows well. There are no irritating spelling errors, resulting in an effortless and enjoyable read.

If you like your books dark and full of suspense but still with some humour, then this is the one for you.

  10. Anne A

After being hired as a PI to investigate incidents of vandalism at the harbour Blake digs deeper and looks into things that happened in the past which is when things start to escalate. This is another well written story from Malcolm Richards which had me gripped from start to finish.  The characters are well written, the descriptions of Cornwall bring the setting to life. I highly recommend the latest book in The Blake Hollow Series.

    Just Put It Behind You
Except you can’t. Especially when vandalism at the harbor turns to missing persons and gruesome death scenes. And the tortured corpses once were a part of your secret, too. How can you continue your everyday life and how can a ‘not wanted’ woman PI help? Blake Hollow faces one of her most heinous killers who seems to be hiding in plain sight in The Dark Below. Malcolm Richards writes action and scenery so that you feel you are watching the story unfold before you as if you were actually there. And isn’t that what good books are supposed to do? Richards has the ability to bring you to the edge of your seat and then switch gears just in time to allow your mind to take over to mystify and terrify you. Let’s hope we read more of Blake Hollow in the future.

  12. JackieT

Once again an intriguing story that will keep you reading. PI Blake gets involved in finding out who is sabotaging the fisherman. Action, suspense and fantastic characters that don’t let you down.

  13. Laura

I think I’ve read all the Blake Hollow series books and this one didn’t disappoint! Blake is a private investigator whose investigation happens to cross over with a murder and she ends up trying to solve both. I like the way the book is written, it’s easy to read, with a few gruesome moments! If you like a thriller, you’ll like this one.

  14. JEROME J Malone

The Dark Below is a captivating murder mystery with a touch of the Macabre. The story takes a turn early in the book that grabs your attention,
and holds it to the end. The scenes in the Book are well described and make it easy to imagine the area. Overall and excellent read. PI Blake Hollow shines

  15. Sandy Salter

I am a HUGE Malcom Richards fan. I’ve read all of his books and have loved every single one of them. They are hard to put down once started, and then I’m always sad when it ends! But having said that, I think The Dark Below has to be my favorite in the Blake Hollow series. I can easily see this becoming a movie (that’s supposed to be a compliment!)! Thank you, again, Malcolm for such an amazing and thrilling book! I’m looking forward to the next one in this series! In the meantime, I will be re-reading this one again and again!

  16. Debbie Stanley

I think this is the best Blake Hollow book to date. The characters are interesting and believable, the storey line is great and the tension keeps the reader on the edge of their seat, even though we know who the killer is quite early on . A great read

  17. Caroline Cole

I am a great fan of Malcolm Richards writing but I must confess that The Dark Below is the first book featuring Blake Hollow that I have read. It has certainly left me wanting to read books 1 and 2 to know more about her. I was hooked on the story from the beginning and didn’t want to put it down until it was finished.
Thank you Malcolm Richards for such an enthralling book.
